Mentoring Shines a Light!
Research proves that caring volunteers working with students of all ages have the power to help kids boost academic achievement, develop social-emotional skills and put young people on track to graduate high school on time.
As one of Metro United Way’s Black Male Achievement Initiative grantees, Salt and Light Community Development Corporation has been making a positive change in our community through the Boys to Men Academy of Louisville. This group mentoring program is designed to support boys in grades 4 – 12 to transition to manhood and remove barriers to achieve success in life.
“Every second Saturday of the month, mentors come and talk to our kids about issues, including anger management, academic success and problems at home and in their neighborhoods,” says Dr. Tina White, CEO & President. “It is important to expose our boys to different professions and experiences to help them become responsible community members,” she said.
Mentors who impact the lives of youth in out-of-school time initiatives such as the Boys to Men Academy of Louisville are engaging students and providing learning, enrichment and leadership opportunities that help them reach their fullest potential in school and in life.
