BIMS Database/Analytics Manager

Describe what you do at Metro United Way (MUW):

The main thing I do is provide solutions. When an employee has a problem, or an inefficient, outdated process, I do my best to provide them with a solution that saves them time and saves the organization's limited resources.

What makes Metro United Way stand out as an employer?

MUW stands out for me because they are willing to be innovative, even when there is a chance that something will not work. For example, I am Metro United Way's one and only fully remote employee. So remote in fact, that I live 1,000 miles away. I lived in Louisville, worked for Metro United Way, and then had the opportunity to move to southern Florida. Even though at the time we didn't have a telecommuting policy, MUW was willing to take a chance and give it a try. Four years later and I am still going strong with Metro United Way! The success that came from allowing me to work remotely opened the door and now many of our employees are able to telecommute a few days a week. None of this would have been possible had it not been for MUW's willingness to be innovative and take a chance.

What are some of the highlights working for Metro United Way?

The main highlight for me is the same as it has been since I started at MUW five years ago: the mission. Knowing that what I do every day helps our community is why I work for Metro United Way. I have the phrase "Work hard at work worth doing" on the board in my office and I think that sums up how I feel about working for Metro United Way.

What has been your biggest accomplishment during your time so far at Metro United Way?

I wouldn't say that I have one major accomplishment that stands out much higher than the rest. I think that due to the nature of the work that I do, I have small accomplishments every week. More often that not, when someone comes to me with a problem, I don't immediately know how to solve it, and it takes research and a lot of thought to come up with the best solution. My problem solving skills are challenged every day and that is one of the reasons why I enjoy my job so much.

How do you view your role in our community?

By doing what I am good at, I am helping Metro United Way improve our community. I may not be on the front line, but I help Metro United Way and the people who are on the front line work more efficiently and by doing that, I am working to improve the lives of the people in our community.
