LINC Seuss & Sips
Thursday, March 2, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at Kentucky Science Center, 727 W Main St.
"You're off to great places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting. So...get on your way!" In this case, great places = the Kentucky Science Center, and our mountain = their Cardboard Corral, a space where our community's youngest kiddos can play, explore, imagine and learn in a world of cardboard creations made just for them. By us. We'll cut, craft, and build with the help of experts. No artistic skill required. (Can you guess the theme? Think Truffula trees, tall hats, mischievous cats...) Then, think drinks. We'll have snacks and raise a glass to the great Theodor Seuss Geisel himself and his dream of empowering all people.
During LINC's Birthday Bash, we celebrated LINC's 1st Birthday by packaging Welcome Baby Bundles that provide new and in-need parents with the essential - but not always readily available - items they need to create healthy and nurturing environments for their infants.
Why? Because we know that the first five years of a child's life are a time of enormous social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth and that this journey begins on day one. Healthy babies is a goal we can all get behind, and the best way to reach that goal is to equip the families who care for them. Let's make it happen!

During LINC Out-of-the-Gates, we packaged "Out-of-the-Gate Gear" in backpacks for 200 students across our community who still need basic supplies to start their school year off right, including an encouraging note in each backpack!

During LINC @ ReSurfaced, we painted and prepped several new Little Libraries for our community. These large wooden boxes full of books will live in front yards and provide easy access to free books for neighbors who may live a distance from public libraries or lack convenient transportation. We relaxed, gave back, and enjoyed live music, corn hole, giant Jenga!
Why: Because access to books is one of the strongest indicators of a child’s success, and we have the chance to improve it.
#LouLINC Recipe for Success
Thursday, May 19, 2016 at The Green Building
LINC Recipe for Success featured our biggest volunteer opportunity yet - attendees assembled 2,500 kindergarten readiness kits for children in our community! After prepping the ingredients that lead to a strong school start for kids, we kicked back and explored the elements in three of the best cocktails in the city crafted by the experts at RYE.
Why: Children who live in healthy, vibrant communities that offer engaging learning experiences have a better chance of entering kindergarten prepared, which sets them on the path for lifelong success. Kindergarten Countdown is a partnership between Metro United Way, Louisville Metro, Louisville Free Public Library, Jefferson County Public Schools, and PNC Bank with support from cultural and educational institutions throughout the county. The kits assembled contain a child's ticket to rich learning opportunities throughout the summer that support their transition to kindergarten.
Thursday, February 25, 2016 at the Tim Faulkner Gallery
What:LINC BREWS, BOOKS, & BARBERS - Attendees raised glassed and voices for Black Male Achievement (BMA) in Louisville. We saw our BMA work in action through musical performances and volunteered to help provide beautiful bookmarks for reading nooks filled with culturally responsive books to be placed in barbershops around our community.
Why: Because this is how each of us - no matter who we are or where we come from - starts to make a difference for black boys and young men in our community.

Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Great Flood Brewing Company
The ticket to this event was a t-shirt, sweatshirt, or hoodie from attendees' college alma mater or favorite team, which we handed out to students in two of Metro United Way's partner out-of-school time programs (Americana Community Center and Y-NOW) with a personal note of encouragement written at the LINC event!
#LouLINC LAUNCH EVENT

More than 200 people attended the event at Copper & Kings and had a chance to enjoy this beautiful venue and to create clay creations that were then packaged individually for children in our Excellence Academy Early Learning Centers.
