Metro United Way and Muhammad Ali Center Close 7th Annual
Greatest Give Back in Most Impactful Year Yet

600 volunteers packed 7,000 laundry and healthy snack kits for Greater Louisville families

Louisville, Ky. (September 24, 2026) – Today, Metro United Way and the Muhammad Ali Center hosted the seventh annual Greatest Give Back, the largest in the event’s history in both volunteers engaged and care kits assembled for Greater Louisville families. Six hundred volunteers came together at the Muhammad Ali Center across two shifts to assemble 3,000 laundry kits and 4,000 healthy snack kits, which will be distributed to 64 area nonprofits for delivery to families in need across Greater Louisville.

The Greatest Give Back is a signature, hands-on service project honoring Muhammad Ali’s legacy of humanitarianism and lifelong commitment to his hometown, and one that continues to grow. Volunteers of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds helped assemble the kits with all training and materials provided by Metro United Way and the Muhammad Ali Center. Since the event began, volunteers have packed more than 20,000 kits that have benefitted hundreds of area nonprofits.

“We are so proud of this year’s event turnout and what this continued, mission-minded partnership with the Muhammad Ali Center makes possible,” said Adria Johnson, President and CEO of Metro United Way. “The Greatest Give Back helps meet an immediate need for those that may not have access to essential household and food items. We’re grateful to our nonprofit partners for carrying that impact into the community.”

The Muhammad Ali Center shares in that spirit, calling on Louisville to continue carrying Ali’s compassion forward with each passing year.

“Muhammad believed that the greatest way to honor our shared humanity was to lift others up. His compassion was more than a belief; it was a call to action. Through The Greatest Give Back and our partnership with Metro United Way, we are bringing Louisville together to carry that legacy forward and make a difference for those who need it most,” said Lonnie Ali, Co-Founder, Interim President and CEO of the Muhammad Ali Center.
